Change your weather location
When you first land on the page I set a cookie with the zip code for Albany as default so I can set the basic information to populate your home page with information for the Accuweather weather gadget.
On submission of the form, I set a cookie on your machine that has the zip code and username information and that's it. It then redirects you back to the home page where your updated zip code is inserted into the Accuweather gadget again with this new zip code.
Why use a cookie?
- In this case it makes it very easy for me to get the bare minimum of information needed to make the page useful.
- No complex registration and database coding for me. I can concentrate on finding/updating content.
- Cookie is set for 30 days. It expires after that, so you will have to reset. If you clear cookies on machine, you will have to set it again.
- It's fast setting, even if you clean cookies everyday it's takes 5 seconds to sign in.
- I DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE WITH THE COOKIE! I DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR MANPOWER TO DO WHATEVER CONSPIRACY THEORY IDEAS YOU HAVE ABOUT COOKIES. :)
I hope this helps explain where I'm coming from by using a cookie set up for this custom page, basically, it's fast and easy all round!
